About Our Bird Collection

This random bird generator includes 90 real bird species with pictures, scientific names, families, habitats, diets, and facts. Most are from North America and Europe, with a smaller number from South America, Africa, Asia, Oceania, and Antarctica. It is not a complete list of every bird in the world.

You will see more North American birds (62 species) and European birds (43 species) than birds from other regions: South America 2, Africa 2, Asia 1, Oceania 1, and Antarctica 1. Some birds live in more than one region, so the same species can show up in more than one of those numbers. Facts come from public references such as Wikipedia, and each result links to its source.

How to Generate Random Birds

  1. Choose 1, 3, 5, or 10 birds.
  2. Optionally narrow by type, region, or habitat.
  3. Click Pick a Random Bird, then copy names or download a list.

How Random Selection Works

The generator picks at random from the birds that match your choices. You can mix bird type, region, and habitat. If you pick several birds at once, the same species will not appear twice in that set. To avoid showing the same birds right away, the tool remembers recent picks and starts over when it has already shown most of the matching birds.

If you choose more than one option in the same group, such as two bird types, a result can come from any of those types. If you also choose a region or habitat, the bird has to match those as well. For example, Owls, North America, and Forest only includes owls that live in North American forests. Changing your choices hides the last bird until you pick again.
